Friday Favorites - 01.29.2021

I’m going to try a new series here and on Instagram stories and call it Friday Favorites. That’s probably not original…I’m guessing lots of people do something similar. But, it could be fun, so we’ll give it a try for a while.

So, here are some of my favorite things this week:

  1. This mask:

I never thought I would be excited to buy or wear a mask, but I might be slightly obsessed with Schitt’s Creek, so it makes me laugh every time I put it on.

2. This quote:

“For beauty to come from ashes, something has to burn.”

Emily P. Freeman, The Next Right Thing podcast, episode 163.

3. This girl:

We enjoyed attending the 8th grade ball at our sweet little school last Saturday night and she said the kindest, most thoughtful words to us at the end of the evening. She is an amazing human and we take zero credit for that.

4. This book:

The Beauty in Breaking by Michelle Harper is an amazingly beautiful memoir of a doctor and her experiences with patients. Her ability to weave words into stories paints vivid pictures and I can’t quite get enough of it. And the world needs more doctors with her care and compassion for her patients.

5. This song: Evermore by Taylor Swift

Gray November
I've been down since July
Motion capture
Put me in a bad light

I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone
Trying to find the one where I went wrong
Writing letters
Addressed to the fire

And I was catching my breath
Staring out an open window
Catching my death
And I couldn't be sure
I had a feeling so peculiar
That this pain would be for
Evermore

Hey December
Guess I'm feeling unmoored
Can't remember
What I used to fight for

I rewind the tape but all it does is pause
On the very moment all was lost
Sending signals
To be double crossed

And I was catching my breath
Barefoot in the wildest winter
Catching my death
And I couldn't be sure
I had a feeling so peculiar
That this pain would be for
Evermore
(Evermore)

Can't not think of all the cost
And the things that will be lost
Oh, can we just get a pause?
To be certain we'll be tall again
Whether weather be the frost
Or the violence of the dog days
I'm on waves, out being tossed
Is there a line that I could just go cross?

And when I was shipwrecked (can't think of all the cost)
I thought of you (all the things that will be lost now)
In the cracks of light (can we just get a pause?)
I dreamed of you (to be certain we'll be tall again)
(If you think of all the costs)
It was real enough (whether weather be the frost)
To get me through (or the violence of the dog days)
(Out on waves being tossed)
But I swear (is there a line that we could just go cross?)
You were there

And I was catching my breath
Floors of a cabin creaking under my step
And I couldn't be sure
I had a feeling so peculiar
This pain wouldn't be for

Evermore

6. And this view of my house:

Six months ago, we weren’t going to take the wallpaper down in the office. I mean, it was silk and hand-painted. But after trying to make the space work, I realized it just wasn’t going to. I couldn’t focus in the room and always had to go somewhere else to get work done. And I didn’t really love the wallpaper; it just wasn’t my style. To the purists, I’m sorry, but we took it out. And I’m so happy with how this space is turning out now. Soft barely pink walls, herringbone wood floors. It’s going to be amazing and I couldn’t be more excited to move my furniture back in in a few days.

Well, that’s it for this week and the first edition of Friday Favorites. What are you loving this week?
