Friday Favorites… 02.26.2021
….on a Saturday again.
So, I’m seriously trying to making this a regular thing, but life and lack of imagination keep conspiring against me. That said, let me post about my Friday favorites (that were also on a Saturday) from a couple of weeks ago. I did the Instagram story, but never posted them here. So, first things first…
It was the beginning of the cold snap that disabled the entire country and my Ugg boots were my bestest of friends for a good ten days. Whether standing outside for carpool duty, cooking in my arctic garage-kitchen, or just trying to keep warm in my meat locker of a house, my boots and I were inseparable.
For the same reason as the boots, my heating pad and I were also inseparable. We have a pretty steady thing going year-round, but I almost had it surgically attached for those two weeks.
This book on audio, read by Tom Hanks. I probably don’t have to explain why a book that stars an unusual, oversize house as its main character captivated me for a few weeks. The story of how a house changed the lives of its inhabitants gave me a lot to think about as we sort of wrestle out whether the move to this house has been a good thing for our family, or not.
This book, in print, surprised me. I was familiar with Harriet Lerner, but hadn’t read any of her work before. There is a lot of good stuff contained within, but it is honestly her insight on the relationship between teenage girls and their mothers that made this one so meaningful to me.
And then face masks. Not because I love wearing them (though these above by Athleta are probably the most comfortable ones I own), but because they cover my ridiculously unphotogenic face and prevent images like the ones below from being captured.
Why does my face do these things?!?!?!
So, that’s from a few weeks ago. This week’s favorites are up ahead!
First up, this weighted blanket from Target. It’s pretty, cozy, and just the right weight. I’ve never been a big fan of weighted blankets until the past year when Covid kicked my latent anxiety into high gear and the sensory input of a heavy blanket became a game changer in my sleep life.
Next, this gorgeous green paint color by Farrow and Ball (#47 Green Smoke). We did a color match with Behr Marquee paint and Chandler did a mini makeover on her room a couple of weeks ago when we had two snow days and she was stuck at home. If you haven’t figured it out, I love green, and this one is soft and cozy and just perfect for a living space.
Also everything that is happening in this picture. Because kitchen progress!!
Also, the cutie in the middle here who played varsity basketball for the first time in her life this year (small school perks). We celebrated her Senior Night a couple of weeks ago, and in the middle of a weird, hard year, the evening was one of those almost-normal bright spots.
Then there’s this quote by David Kessler -
Grief requires witnessing.
Each person’s grief is as unique as their fingerprint. But what everyone has in common is that no matter how they grieve, they share a need for their grief to be witnessed. That doesn’t mean needing someone to try to lessen it or reframe it for them. The need is for someone to be fully present to the magnitude of their loss without trying to point out the silver lining.
And last, but not least, these shoes. I’m not usually a sneaker person, but these popped up in an email last week and I’m slightly obsessed. Because they are pink Air Jordans. What’s not to love???
All right, that’s it for this week! See you here next week (or maybe the week after lol).
