Month in Review: March 2021

It’s the end of October and I just went back and read the last blog post I shared here. It was the beginning of March and I was looking back on January and February. Wow. So much has changed in nearly eight months. That shouldn’t surprise me, but we have come a long way since early spring. So let’s start the slow process of reflecting on the past several months, one month at a time.

We entered March excited to have Emma returning home and the kitchen project (mostly) wrapping up. Our girl arrived in early March and it was a joy to have her back at home and part of the family. We had good conversations and heard stories about her time at training.

I don’t think she’s supposed to have her hat on in this, but I was so excited to get a picture with her in her uniform!

The kitchen came together, with final touches coming slowly. But we got countertops and appliances and plumbing. We moved everything back in and began to live out of the kitchen the way it was meant to be lived out of.

We enjoyed spring break – a slightly strange time considering what happened at the end of spring break twelve months before. But we had a great time and returned to school the following week and life kept going as it was meant to. Spring Break took Amania to Florida with her bonus family and it took Chandler, Ellie, and me to Wyoming for a fun week of skiing and time with friends and families from school. I had never been to Wyoming, but it was stunning – a perfect mix of mountains and big skies. And the weather that week was unbelievable – warm enough to ski without a coat and to stay warm sitting in the sun.

March included Amania’s 14th birthday and the return of her soccer season. It also marked eight years since she came home to be part of our family forever.

All in all, March was a good month. We continued to heal as a family from a hard year and we continued to work together toward growth. I know we all say it, but time is such a weird thing. March seems like it was a minute ago and it seems like it was years ago as well. Life goes so fast. The days are long, but the years are short.
