Welcome to Our Modern Manor

So it may seem a little crazy to buy a house “for fun” during a global pandemic, but when your hobby is choosing crazy, it’s kind of what you do. We have received no small amount of grief from some very well-meaning people about the purchase of this house. “Why would you move when you just finished your house???” “Why are you buying a castle?”  “Do you need that much space when your kids are all starting to move out?” “It looks pretentious.” “Do you want everyone to think you’re rich?”

In answer to each of those: “I don’t know. It’s just what we do.” “Uhhh…why wouldn’t we?!?!?” “No, but we plan to put it to good use anyway.” “I’m sorry.” And, “no.”

Here’s the why: we have admired this house for years. Years. We walked into this house for the first time on February 6th and were blown away – by the uniqueness, by the craftsmanship, by the over-the-top sprawl, by the ridiculousness of the idea, by the beauty, and by the potential we saw. We saw then, and we see now, opportunities to host events for the community, to fill our house with family and friends, to host our girls’ classmates for parties, to encourage others, and to be a place of refuge for those who may need to get away. We talked in circles for weeks, trying to talk ourselves out of this, because we did just finish a super-awesome remodel on our current house, and we did not need to move. But we just couldn’t shake the desire to make this house our family home. So here we go on a new adventure. We hope to make it fun – both for our family and for those that follow along. We learned a lot on our last project and are excited to do it again!
