Entry Design Ideas
Today let’s talk entry design!
Currently our entryway and both the upstairs and downstairs landings are a very bold terra cotta sort of color. The first time we toured the house, I was oddly okay with it, but the more we walked through, the less I could see myself living with it. So to the top of the update list it went.
On the main floor, the entry has no wood trim except for the door headers. Instead, the baseboards and door casings are all stone. (Insert all the heart eyes!) The headers, as well as the exposed beams across the ceiling, are all a beautiful lime-waxed oak, as are the doors. (Insert even more heart eyes!) On the second floor, however, where the open entry design carries up to, the baseboards, the crown, and even the doors are alllll painted the same terra cotta pink. (sigh)
Since one of our goals is to modernize this house (hence the name Our Modern Manor), while still staying true to its history and architectural glory, we have decided to go with Sherwin Williams White Flour on the walls throughout the entry and second floor landing areas. (We are currently leaving the basement stairs case and landing “as is” but will paint eventually.) This should brighten up the space and allow us to really showcase the architectural details of this part of the house.
On the second floor, we will continue with the White Flour. Then we are going to go with a contrast trim in Iron Ore (Sherwin Williams). As I said in my post on the dining room, I am all about SW Iron Ore – such a gorgeous grey-black with a tendency to go navy blue. (Can I get some more heart eyes???)
We will be keeping the main chandelier that sits within the spiral staircase, as well as the two laurel leaf sconces upstairs. We will be replacing the two entry pendant lights with wood bead chandeliers (so excited!!!) and the sun sconces with a more modern shaded sconce. We are deciding if we will repurpose some of the sun sconces elsewhere, but at least two of them will be gifted back to the previous owner’s granddaughter who has asked to have them as a memory of her grandmother.
Painting on both the dining and entry are set to start in about ten days. Because there is oil-based paint involved and Matt is not a fan of painting with that, we have decided to hire a painter to come in and do these spaces for us. We can’t wait for him to get here and get started!
We will be on Instagram a bit the next couple of days, then disconnecting on Sunday to celebrate Easter with our girls. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend celebrating with your families and that you know the hope of redemption that Easter brings to each of us.
