Our first week at home

Hello there, friends! It has been a wild and wooly couple of weeks at the new house! We officially moved in last weekend, so it’s been a busy time of getting all the things out of the old house (there’s still so much random stuff over there!) and trying to find all the things we need at the new house. While moving this go ‘round hasn’t been terrible, the past few days have reminded me that it’s still not my favorite way to pass a month or two. It has, however, provided a lovely distraction during quarantine. This week I have been able to get the kitchen, one living room, and our Master bedroom/bathroom unpacked and put together. No art or décor is out, but things have a home and boxes are finding their way to the recycle bin, which feels so good!

The new house has a lot more yard than our previous home, so Matt bought a pair of soccer goals for the girls this weekend. We are looking forward to warm, sunny days and lots of time for kick arounds!

We have had a painter here at the house for much of the past week working in the dining room and entry way. Bless him! He’s done an amazing job and we are so close to completion on that phase of these two projects. Last night we worked in the dining room, installing the new sconces and began installation of the new chandelier. We did a lot of back and forth between keeping the original chandelier and bringing in the new one. We finally decided that our current table is too industrial to work under an antique chandelier, so it was either replace the light or the table (that I just bought last year). The table won and is currently being moved over from the old house, so we should be able to eat in there tonight! The Manor has a sweet little breakfast nook that we have put a table in. It has been useful for doing homework and sending emails, but it’s not a space made for 6 people to be in at once, so mealtimes have been crowded, to say the least.

Dining room progress: Iron Ore paint and old area rug removed. In the process of removing the rug, we found the wires for the call switch that the master of the house would have used to call the servants during dinners!

Entry progress: loving that SW White Flour paint!

We also have exterior lighting being installed this week. We are so excited for the difference that is going to make, as far as the house looking inviting and warm year-round. Pics of that to come!

In family news, the girls are starting to feel settled, I think. Their bedrooms are almost complete and you can see each of their personalities coming through in their design choices. If they are okay with it, we will do a show and tell of their rooms sometime soon. Internet has been installed and hooked up and we have some amazing good wifi happening with our Amplifi system. Normally that would only be exciting from a social media/entertainment standpoint. But, thanks to Covid, it’s critical so the girls can keep up with school and I can keep up with work.

That’s it for this week. Next week we close on the sale of our former home. I’ll try to give you a little tour of it before then. Have a great rest of the week, friends!
